Tammy Fowler Pound named Outstanding School Board Member of the Year
Unalaska, AK: The Association of Alaska School Boards (AASB) recognized Tammy Fowler Pound as theOutstanding School Board Member of the Year at its annual conference banquet on November 5, 2011. Mrs. Pound has served on her local school board since February 2000 and as its president since October 2001. Mrs. Pound has served on the AASB Board of Directors for the past year as the organization’s past-president.
Tammy Fowler Pound was nominated for the Outstanding School Board Member of the Year award by the Unalaska City School District Board of Education. In the application, Tammy’s colleagues stated: “Tammy frequently leads conversations among board members, staff, administration and community members about how to creatively address student needs in a school district as small and as remote as Unalaska City School District.” Tammy has led the annual school board self-evaluation process and she has been a fierce proponent of positive school climate, student connectedness and community engagement.
Tammy’s fellow board members describe her as “a dedicated and inspiring leader and a committed school board member,” and they believe that “much of the demonstrated success of our schools can be attributed to her time, attention, leadership and endless efforts to ensure that students succeed.” Congratulations, Tammy, on this much deserved award!
